Latin Roots
Raquel’s Latin origin was kept quiet because Hollywood wanted her to be “all-American.” Raquel’s parents also did not teach her Spanish since her father wanted her to fully integrate into American culture. Raquel grew interested in learning about her roots after visiting Spain to film movies. “I think language is incredibly crucial to your identity,” Raquel says, “and not having that… I sometimes feel cut off from that part of myself. Nonetheless, I continue to identify as Hispanic. “A Latina is the essence of who I am.”
The Smouldering Brunette
Raquel Welch has inspired so much of what we consider to be attractive. Welch, as a notable pin-up and Hollywood icon, has made significant contributions to the modern feminine ideal. We imagine something like her when we think of beauty. The blonde bombshell was formerly the most celebrated type of female beauty. In the late 1950s, stars like Marilyn Monroe and Jayne Mansfield dazzled. Welch, on the other hand, heralded the age of the smoldering brunette in the 1960s and 1970s.
