Jack Dempsey and Hannah Williams
Even boxers deserve a chance at love at some point in their lives, as does famed performer Jack Dempsey. Kid Blackie, as he was called in the ring, was married four times during his life. In this shot, he is seen with his third wife, Hannah Williams. She was also well-known for her work as a Broadway vocalist and her divorce from Roger Wolfe Kahn. The Manssa Mauler, as he was sometimes called, took his wedded bride sailing on their honeymoon. Despite having two children, the couple parted ways in 1943.
Franklin D. Roosevelt and Eleanor Roosevelt
World leaders, like everyone else, deserve to have a good honeymoon. This is exactly what former President Franklin D. Roosevelt did after marrying Eleanor, his sixth cousin, in 1905. The pair is seen here enjoying their honeymoon in Italy. However, their marriage suffered as a result of FDR’s numerous indiscretions, the most notable of which was with Eleanor’s social secretary. While their romance failed, the pair remained together for political reasons. Eleanor chose to live apart from Franklin, even as his health deteriorated. The president was also in a romance with Lucy Mercer while still married to Eleanor.
