Doris Duke, formerly recognized as the world’s richest girl, discovered a new type of fortune when she married Porfirio Rubirosa in Paris in September 1947. They spent their honeymoon in the French capital, where this photograph was taken. Rubirosa had paid his ex-wife a large sum of money before marrying Duke. However, he would have to repeat the process a year later. Despite the showy displays of wealth and gifts, the couple split up in 1948, and Duke remained unmarried for the rest of her life.

Marie Curie and Pierre Curie
On their honeymoon, the famed chemists Pierre and Marie Curie are seen standing next to some bikes. As their scientific careers grew in Paris, the two began working together professionally. Although they were cautious to make things romantic, they soon fell in love with each other, and it was only a matter of time before Pierre proposed to Marrie. While Pierre earned his doctorate and Marie pursued her Ph.D., the couple married in 1895. Their strong love for science (and each other) lasted until Pierre’s death in 1906.
