Is there a man in Hollywood better known for stealing hearts than Clark Gable? In this photo, the renowned actor is still wearing his long hair, which he grew out for his career-defining role in “Gone With the Wind.” At the time, Gable had recently married Carole Lombard, and the couple may be seen enjoying their honeymoon at a golf course in Del Monte, California. The man standing next to them is Eric Tyrrell-Martin, a British polo player. By all accounts, it was a very happy period in Gable’s life. Tragically, Lombard died in an aircraft crash in 1942, breaking Gable’s heart in the process.

Photos do not always capture the complete tale. While these two appeared to be head over heals for each other, their relationship would not endure. Swimming champion Johnny Weissmueller is shown here romantically kissing his wife Bobbe Arnst on their honeymoon in Miami, Florida. Weissmueller married five times in his lifetime, and this was his first wedding. But it was only a brief time in an otherwise tragic marriage. Their relationship terminated after only two years. However, his fifth marriage, to Maria Gertrude Baumann, lasted until his death in 1984.
