Wedding Bells
Thomas and Madeline married two years later, after he graduated from medical school and before beginning his residency. Although school had been difficult, Thomas used his graduation and wedding to help him move on. Madeline’s family and all of their friends were present for their little ceremony. Everyone was aware of his familial circumstances, and they worked hard to fill in the blanks for Thomas. The newlyweds kissed, overjoyed that they had finally taken this great step together. Even though their wedding was perfect, their joy did not last long.
Working Efficiently
Thomas started his residency almost quickly, which required insane long shifts and an erratic schedule. He didn’t get to see Madeline as often as either of them would have liked, but she was gracious and forgiving, knowing how hard Thomas had worked to be here. Thomas started making enough money to pay off his student loans and provide for himself and his wife. But his hectic schedule prevented him from spotting something crucial.
