Issues And Controversy
Welch has appeared in some contentious films in the past. Her film, 100 Rifles, drew widespread criticism for depicting a love scene between people of various ethnicities. Surprisingly, this was still considered taboo in Hollywood in the late 1960s. Raquel Welch’s most divisive performance came in the 1970 film Myra Breckinridge. Welch felt that the role would encourage people to regard her as an actor more seriously, but the film was a disappointment.
Most Desired Woman
Despite the advice of some directors, Welch stayed firm and never fully exposed herself on camera. In 1970, she was crowned Playboy’s “Most Desired Woman” and she hosted the Academy Awards multiple times. The actress had become a household name by the early 1970s. Raquel!, an entire television show dedicated to the actress, aired in 1970. The special was shot in Acapulco, Paris, London, Mexico City, Los Angeles, and other locations. Raquel! included lavish song and dance sequences as well as pop-culture stars.
