In the end, he had no choice but to phone his wife and ask her to come pick him and their new dog up from the shelter. This plea, of course, was met with a considerable amount of silence, because what exactly did Mark just say about getting a new dog!? Almost immediately, she confronted him with her questions and demanded to know why she had not been kept in the loop.

She believed that this was all a lame explanation, and that he had secretly gotten a puppy without informing her because he anticipated that she would reject the idea. Mark was fortunate in that he still had the photographs of the dog with the lion cubs.
