The Note
He unfolded the folded paper to reveal a handwritten note that said, “My name is Sarah Collins, and I am pregnant.” I can’t afford to pay on my own right now, but I believe I require immediate assistance.” The letter went on to explain how the father of the child she was carrying was not present and she was alone on the east coast. Her father was unaware, and he was still in Idaho, but he would be able to pay once she informed him. Thomas’ eyes scanned the page swiftly, but his breath caught in his throat as he read the last paragraph.

Was Sarah Collins’ father from Idaho? That had to be a coincidence, Thomas reasoned, yet something nudges him to investigate. He lowered his gaze to the contact information, took out his phone, and dialed a number. His heart fell when he heard a little voice on the other end. “Good day, Sarah. Dr. Thomas Collins here. “I was wondering if you still needed medical attention,” he said calmly. She sniffled and stated she couldn’t find a hospital that would admit her. He then instructed her to arrive as quickly as possible. All he could do now was wait.
