A Friend’s Suspicion
Lily’s friend, Emma, came over one day after school, eager to see the puppies she had heard so much about. When Lily opened the door to her room, Emma gasped. “Lily, those… don’t look like puppies!” she exclaimed. Lily’s heart sank. “What do you mean?” she asked, her voice defensive. Emma stepped closer, her eyes wide. “Look at their faces… they’re not puppies!” For the first time, Lily truly examined them, her stomach churning.
Reality Dawns
Emma’s words hung in the air as Lily studied her “puppies” with new eyes. Their faces were sharper, their eyes more piercing than she had realized. Panic began to rise in her chest. They looked more like… wild animals. Her mind raced, but she shook her head. “No, they’re just different. They’re puppies, they have to be!” she insisted, but doubt had crept into her thoughts, planting seeds of fear and confusion.
