Something Unusual
Lily began to notice small oddities. The “puppies” didn’t behave exactly like the ones she had seen at her friend’s house. Their bodies moved differently—they were more graceful and quiet. Their fur was finer, and they made high-pitched sounds unlike any puppy bark she had heard. Still, she brushed it off, convincing herself that they were just a different breed. “Maybe they’re just special,” she thought, smiling as one climbed onto her lap.
The Growing Mystery
One evening, as she sat reading, she heard a low, strange growling noise from the corner of the room. Startled, she turned to see Flurry, the smallest of the group, standing alert, its back slightly arched. The other three had also stopped playing and were eerily still. Lily’s stomach tightened in confusion. It was almost as though they sensed something she couldn’t. “It’s okay,” she said softly, but the strange tension lingered in the air.
