He distanced himself emotionally, engaging in conversation with Caitlin less frequently and exhibiting no interest in the activities his children were participating in. Caitlin couldn’t help but feel an increasing sense of dread and loneliness within their home, which had previously been full of life and energy. It appeared as though Gary’s attention was solely concentrated on his work.

The device alerted her to a new message with a buzz, and her natural inclination was to check it out. She gave the screen a quick check, half-expecting to see a message pertaining to her job, but instead, she was taken aback when she discovered that she had received a series of romantic texts from an unidentified number.
