What Was Going On?
Joe stared at his phone, his eyes scanning and rescanning over his mother’s text message. What the hell was going on? Everything seemed perfect just a few days before, yet everything changed in the blink of an eye. His mother’s remarks had rendered him dumbfounded. Why was his mum behaving this way when he was so in love with his girlfriend?

What Was Going On
Informing the Family
Joe and Alina had just completed six months together, and the young man felt it was finally time to tell his mother about the girl who had stolen his heart. Living away from home was difficult, but he knew he could text his mother whenever he wanted. Alina was worried about his family finding out about her. He’d heard some of his mother, Mari’s, stories. She was a nice woman, but she was very possessive of her son.

Informing the Family
The Perfect Girl
Joe reassured her that everything would be fine. “She’s going to love you just as much as I do,” He said, kissing her on the cheek. Alina, in his opinion, was the ideal girl who would fit right in with his family. As she slid deeper onto the couch, she smiled uncomfortably. He rushed to sit next his lover after setting a timer on his camera and placing it on the counter.

The Perfect Girl
Love Of His Life
“All right, say cheese,” He added as their faces erupted into wide grins. He jumped up from his seat and grabbed the camera after the snap was taken. He smiled smugly as he looked at the photo, “You look gorgeous,” he told Alina. He leaned back on the couch alongside her and transferred the snapshot to his phone. He was eager to learn what his mother thought of Alina. He was well aware that she was the love of her life.

Love Of His Life
Sending It
“Hi Mom, I wanted to put you in touch with someone. My girlfriend’s name is Alina. I’m excited for you to meet her. “I adore you,” He was typing on his phone. He took a deep breath and sent the text along with the photo. All he could do now was wait. Alina giggled uncomfortably, not knowing what to expect when the elder woman viewed the photograph.

Sending It
Getting to Know the Family
The couple remained sat on the couch for the next half hour. They were having coffee and enjoying each other’s company while waiting for Joe’s mum to respond. Joe planned to fly himself and Alina to meet his mother for Christmas if everything went well. He’d met Alina’s family before, and he adored them almost as much as he adored her. But he had no idea that one feature in the photograph would irritate his mum.

Getting to Know the Family
A Response
He had just finished his last cup of coffee when he heard his phone ping. He immediately set his cup down and grabbed his phone, knowing that his mother had finally responded to his text. He sat back with Alina, allowing her to view the screen while he read his mother’s text message. But when he read it, his heart sank. “How could you send me this?” She read the first text while typing the second.

A Response
Growing Up
Joe Kruger had the ideal life growing up in Atlanta, Georgia. Life was simple for him and his mother, Mari, and father, Austin. But all changed after he received his mechanical engineering degree. When he first received a job offer in San Francisco, he leaped at the chance. It had always been his goal to live in California, and it was now becoming a reality.

Growing Up
Mama’s Boy
There was only one difficulty. Joe, you see, was a bit of a mama’s boy. He relied heavily on his mother’s assistance throughout his childhood, and as a result, he never learned to accomplish things on his own. For the 27-year-old man, moving across the country was a significant step, but he knew it was necessary.

Mama’s Boy
Shattered
When he broke the news to his mother, she was devastated. Mari, on the other hand, knew that the change would be beneficial to him, and she could see how enthusiastic he was about it. Saying farewell was the most difficult thing she’d ever had to do. Joe was her only kid, and she loved him unconditionally. On the planet than the young man. Mari, on the other hand, had one major flaw: she was envious of each woman that came into her son’s life.

Shattered
Alina
Joe began to embrace his new life as soon as he arrived in California. In San Francisco, every day was exciting. He’d made the best pals, and he liked his job. The only thing lacking was romance. But everything changed one Friday evening. When he saw her, he had gone out for a few beers with his new buddies. Alina was the most stunning woman he had ever seen.

Alina
His Intentions
He didn’t spend any time. He approached the girl right away and asked for her phone number. The couple went on several dates over the next few weeks. Joe made it obvious from the start that he wanted to be in a relationship with Alina. She was first skeptical, but after the third date, she understood how incredible he truly was. They were in a committed relationship before they realized it.

His Intentions
No Idea
Mari, on the other hand, had no knowledge her son had a new girlfriend. He wanted to make certain that the connection would endure before telling his mother about Alina. He waited six months after they had been together before deciding it was time. Alina was tense. She’d heard stories about his mother’s treatment of prior girlfriends. She was afraid Mari would treat her similarly, but Joe assured her that she had nothing to worry about.

No Idea
A Picture
Joe finally decided one Saturday afternoon that it was time to text his mother. He sat in the lounge with Alina as she did her makeup. He wanted to send a picture of the two of them to his mother, and she wanted to make sure she looked great. He grabbed his camera and began to set it up. He expected his mother to be pleased for him, but he had no idea what her gaze would be drawn to after he sent the image.

A Picture
He didn’t get it
Joe couldn’t figure out why Alina was so nervous. Alina, in his opinion, was the ideal girl who would fit right in with his family. Before joining her side, he set up his camera and placed it on the counter. They grinned at the camera and waited for the flash. He grabbed the little device and checked on the snapshot after it was taken. It was ideal.

He didn’t get it.
The Text
He leaned back on the couch alongside her and transferred the snapshot to his phone. He was eager to learn what his mother thought of Alina. He was well aware that she was the love of her life. “Hi Mom, I’d like to introduce you to someone.” My girlfriend’s name is Alina. I’m excited for you to meet her. “I adore you,” he wrote on his phone. He took a deep breath and sent the text along with the photo.

The Text
Waiting
They lingered for a while, catching up on their week while drinking coffee. Joe hoped that if everything went well, his fiancée would be able to meet his mother in December. He had just finished his last cup of coffee when he heard his phone ping. He immediately set his cup down and grabbed his phone, knowing that his mother had finally responded to his text. Aline saw him as he opened the message, which read, “How could you send me this?”

Waiting
Was She Joking?
Joe initially thought his mum was joking. He stood there watching as three small dots appeared at the bottom of his screen. Another message was being typed by his mother. “That doesn’t look good,” Alina said, but he laughed. “Just wait for the next message, it’s not as bad as it seems, I’m sure,” he advised her. However, as the next message appeared, he coughed on those words.

Was She Joking
A Nightmare
“After everything I’ve done for you, you have to rub this in my face?” It said. Joe was completely perplexed. As her biggest nightmare came true, Alina’s cheeks burned. “What are you talking about?” He inquired of his mother, but she did not react. He paused for a moment before texting her again, “Mom, is everything okay?” He didn’t realize it yet, but something about his photo bothered her.

A Nightmare
Ignore Him
Joe continued checking his phone throughout the day, expecting for his mother to say something. Mari, unfortunately for Joe, was the kind to ignore people when she was furious. Alina was feeling sick to her stomach. She blamed herself for everything, and she was frightened of jeopardizing Joe’s relationship with his mother.

Ignore Him
Hopeless
Joe hadn’t heard from his mother by Sunday. He texted her again, but she read it without answering. He was completely depressed. He could tell Alina wasn’t having a good time. She had been sitting calmly, staring into space. He eventually decided enough was enough. It wasn’t right for his mother to simply ignore him. He made the decision to call her.

Hopeless
Calling Her
Her phone rang for a time, and she finally answered just as he was about to hang up. “Hello, Joseph,” Mari stated firmly. When his entire name was mentioned, he rolled his eyes. That was the first time he’d heard it since high school. “Hi Mom, I was hoping we could sort this out.” Is there an issue?” He didn’t waste any time getting to the point. He had always despised his mother’s passive-aggressiveness.

Calling Her
An Issue
“How so?” That horrible photo you sent me?” She stated flatly. She had a habit of being very direct. He couldn’t figure out what was wrong. “I suppose so. “What’s the problem with this picture?” He rolled his eyes once more, wishing she’d just get to the point. Alina sat on the other side of the room, nervously awaiting the end of the call.

An Issue
Replacing Her
“Are you serious, Joseph?” “You move halfway across the country and then send me a picture of the woman you are replacing me with?” she exclaimed, her voice breaking with passion. She started crying. Joe was obviously taken aback by such statement. “Replacing you, Mom-” “I’m not replacing you,” he said, trailing off. “I just wanted to share my life with you,” he said with a scowl.

Replacing Her
The Shirt
“So why would you send me a photo of her wearing the shirt I bought her before you left?” Did you hand it over to her? Is it meaningless to you?” She cried into her phone. She had been struggling without her son’s support. He scowled as he looked down at the shirt, which was now in a heap of laundry on the floor. He was quite attached to the garment. On the front was the cover image of one of his favorite albums. He suddenly realized why his mother was so furious.

The Shirt
An Explanation
“No Mom,” “I didn’t give it to her, she was just wearing it because she wanted to be comfortable,” he groaned over the phone. He spoke openly. Mari remained silent on the other end of the phone line. “And I’m not going to replace you with anyone.” I could never replace you as my mother,” “But I want you to meet Alina,” he exhaled. I’m madly in love with her, and it would mean everything to me if you could get along.”

An Explanation
In The Wrong
After a few seconds, he heard a lengthy sigh on the other end of the telephone. Mari knew she’d done something wrong, and now that she’d cooled down, she felt terrible. However, she suddenly did something she had never done before. She apologized for the first time for being disrespectful to one of her son’s girlfriends. Joe gave a small smile.

In The Wrong
This Moment
“So, you love this girl?” With a pained expression on her face, she asked gently. She had been terrified of this moment her entire life, but she knew there was nothing she could do about it. She only hoped Alina was kind to her son. “Yes, mother. I do.” He smiled softly as he cast a peek across the room towards Alina. “And I want you to meet her.”

This Moment
Meeting Her
Mari had become accustomed to the reality that her son was in a serious relationship by the time December rolled around. She met Alina for the first time and was taken aback by how lovely she was. Mari couldn’t have asked for a better girl to steal her son’s heart than she and Joe were. Mari could feel herself giving in, and she came to adore Alina just as much as Joe did.

Meeting Her
The Big Question
By the end of the holiday, Joe had summoned the nerve to propose to Alina in front of his entire family. She, of course, said yes. Joe’s mother and father were overjoyed and couldn’t wait to celebrate their son’s special day. Everything worked out in the end. Joe had discovered his true love, and his family adored her. Everything made obvious at last.
