We want to present Alexis, Brandon, Joel, Kelsey, Kenny, Jr., Natalie, and Nathan as the McCaughey Septuplets. They were the children of Bobbi and Kenny McCaughey born on 19 November 1997. Their birth two decades ago made headlines around the world as they were the first living septuplets. They enthralled the media, which recorded their achievements as they matured into the fine adults they were already. There was more to their story, and we were optimistic that having so many children was not comfortable at all! Changing diapers, potty training, and feeding just one kid was hard, but it was even more challenging when there were seven of them. How was the family doing?

Let’s Find Out What Happened To The McCaughey Septuplets, Twenty Years Later
Where Are They?
The kids have grown up and developed their unique characters and interests. We thought it was lovely to know they consider their best friends to be their siblings. Have you wondered what has happened over the years to them? What might they be like, now that all of them were adults?

Where Are They?
What’s The Update?
And while curiosity is crawling through your head, we bet you have plenty of questions right now. How old are they? How old are they? Where are they living? Where do they live? Have all of them become healthy? How do they look? How do they look? Were there no complications during pregnancy and birth? All these are only a few of the questions we could answer!

What’s The Update
Welcoming Seven Children All At Once
Bobbi McCaughey had given birth in Des Moines, Iowa, to Alexis, Brandon, Joel, Kelsey, Kenny, Jr., Natalie, and Nathan. The children were all delivered via Caesarean section nine weeks prematurely. Their mother had become pregnant while taking Pergonal, a fertility drug. It certainly did the trick because it helped create seven embryos for her!

Welcoming Seven Children All At Once
Welcome To The World
The children weighed between 2.5 pounds to 3.4 pounds each. Dr. Paula Mahone of the Iowa Methodist Medical Center was one of the doctors charged with assisting with their delivery. Firstborn Kenny was nicknamed Hercules because he “held all the others up” in the womb. Not all of the babies were delivered in excellent health, though.

Some Of Them Had Health Problems
It was miraculous that the children all survived, although not all of them were safe and prosperous. Alexis had hypotonic quadriplegia, meaning that her arms, legs, and chest have a poor muscle tone that caused her difficulty holding positions. She used to use a walker to back her up.

More Health Issues
There was also Nathan, who has spastic diplegia causing spasm of his legs. They made a unique chair to show him how to place his weight on his legs to walk. They have sought numerous surgeries to improve their quality of life. Yet there was still more to it.

More Health Issues
Four Out Of Seven
Natalie and Alexis used to have extreme reflux as children and had to be fed through a pump linked to their stomachs. Considering how unusual the situations were, we could see why the media paid so much attention to the family. That meant four of the babies were having health problems.

What The Public Had To Say
Also, publications like Newsweek and Time covered the story. Public reactions about birth were mixed. Some people gave them congratulatory letters, while other strangers scolded them. “In the beginning, for every ten letters we would get that were happy for us, we’d get one letter accusing us of exploiting the kids and being selfish to waste the world’s resources on a family this big,”

What The Public Had To Say
Well-Known Around Town
“We had strangers come around to the back door, knock, and ask if they could hold a baby,” Bobbi told the Baptist Bulletin back in 2007. Naturally, people were curious about the children. Indeed, even the President of the United States thought this way!

A Call From The President
When the septuplets were born, President Bill Clinton had been sworn in another term in the Oval Office. He was so touched by the story that he called the McCaughey family to express his congratulations personally. “Everybody up here at the White House has been sitting here wide-mouthed.”

A Call From The President
An Invitation
During the phone call, the President told Bobbi, “All of us who raised one or two kids, and three, are just amazed. But I admire you, and I think it’s great, and I hope it will be a great adventure for you the whole way through.”

An Invitation
Visit To The White House
Have you ever imagined stepping into the White House and meeting the President of America, thanking you for everything you did? That may have been the case for the McCaughey family because they had been invited by the President himself to visit the White House for a short time. What an advantage, no? Oh, after taking the world’s news, who wouldn’t meet the beautiful family?

Scholarships From The Get-Go
It is not much easier to raise seven children at once, particularly financially. The preference of Bobbi McCaughey to reduce her risk of pregnancy and childbirth complications was the selective reduction. It may also have been an incentive for them to assist their children in giving them a better life. But all seven children were rejected and held by Bobbi. She said they would “leave it in the hands of God.” After childbirth, both private and public supporters offered immense support.

Scholarships From The Get-Go
Gifts From Birth
Each state university offered full scholarships in the state of Iowa. When they were born, Hannibal-LaGrange University also offered them full scholarships! Aside from these generous college rants, when it came to necessities, they have received assistance. Also, even a company offered them a supply of something they needed for life!

Gifts From Birth
The Generosity Of Strangers
To help the family out, friends and companies were there. The family lived in a small town called Carlisle with 3,200 people, many of whom held fundraisers for the McCaughey. A lifetime supply of Pampers diapers was also provided to them by Procter & Gamble Co.
The Generosity Of Strangers
The Donations Piled In
Corporate officials were providing grants, groceries, and a van to the family. A heating business gave them a furnace. The Los Angeles Times reported that for a year, Gerber Products Co. promised to offer baby food to the family. While the septuplets received a lot of media coverage, the family also had another child.

Do Not Forget The Eldest Child
It seemed like not many people knew that the septuplets had a 21-month-old older sister! On 3 January 1996, Mikayla Marie, the eldest child, was born. Though back then, she was just a toddler, she always lent a hand to her mother. Now, where was she?

Mikaela also assisted during the playtime and bottle-feeding sessions, among other things. She’s married to a pastor now, and she’s living in Kansas City. Together, in 2017, they had a baby boy named Becham. Bobbi and Kenny were forced to turn to music to provide for their eight children.

The McCaughey Septuplets’ Sweet Dreams
They had a publicity and spiritual advisor called Wes Yoder, the Ambassador Artist Agency president, located in Nashville. He recorded the family’s lullaby album The McCaughey Septuplets’ Sweet Dreams. Artists from London to Nashville have given this project their time and talent.

Artists Who Wanted To Help
Many Christian musicians worked on it like Kathie Lee Gifford! Kenny and Bobby performed a song on the album and sang in church. The fund they founded to support other families with multiple children earned half the benefit. Let us discover what other tactics were used by the family to collect funds and spread the word about their plight.

A Book Deal As Well
Your bravery was unparalleled. While, almost two decades ago, their decision was brave and frightening, because they didn’t know what would happen or what consequences would wait for them if they were in that situation. However, as Bobbi said, everybody sounded amazing with all their confidence and trust in God to the whole family. After the release of the album, Wes Yoder might also make a book deal for the McCaughey family! It tells their story and shows the confidence and bravery of the family.

Amazon Synopsis
The Amazon synopsis mentioned, “This story of simple faith recounts the events leading up to, during, and following the births of the only living septuplets in the world.” This shows not only the birth of the seven babies and the hardships of the McCaughey family but also the love of all the people who respected them and their deep trust in the couple. However, once they became adults, McCaughey made a life-changing decision.

They Ended Up Selling The House
When the McCaughey parents were eventually empty nesters, the 5,500 square foot house was sold out. The seven-bed five-bath was a gift from the Clark Company to them in 1998. The one to inherit the house afterward was a nonprofit located in Des Moines called Ruth Harbor. The organization was providing shelter and counseling for young mothers.

Downsizing
Bobbi explained, “We have been blessed to receive such a wonderful gift, and nothing would please us more than the idea of our home being used as a place of refuge to others in need.” Parents have since scaled down to a three-bedded home! But how were the septuplets?

Kenny “Class Clown” McCaughey, Jr.
We told you before that Kenny Jr. was the oldest of the seven. His siblings said he was the “class clown.” Before taking up vocational studies at Des Moines Area Community College, he stayed at the family house in Iowa to engage in the construction trade.

A Big Family
After being guests on TODAY in 1997, they appeared on the show again. Just days before their 18th birthday the McCaughey family was invited again to be the show’s guests. They were interviewed and asked how they handled their lives so far. He said, “Just having a big family with a lot of brothers and sisters to hang out with. you’re never alone, and there’s always someone to talk to,” he said as Today was interviewing the family on their 18th birthday. “That’s what I think is best.”

A Big Family
Kelsey “The Singer” McCaughey
At 2.4 pounds at the time of their birth, Kelsey McCaughey was the fourth oldest but smallest of the siblings. She wanted to go into music but chose to hold on to her aspirations as she studied from Hannibal LaGrange University in public relations. “It was definitely a culture shock, for sure,” she told Today, referring to her decision to go to a school far from home.

Difficult Transition
She went on to say, “It was a difficult transition to be away from our parents and be outside of Iowa, but I think that we all did welcome it, and just really created new friendships and met new people in a new environment.” This could be a fantastic transition not only for Kelsey but also for her siblings. You can’t easily leave home behind when you have spent your whole life with your family, 24/7.

Difficult Transition
Natalie “Smarty Pants” McCaughey
It is no secret that not everyone had healthy living when they were young. One of them is Natalie. She and her sister Alexis had a pump to feed and severe reflux when they were young. But neither of them has been hindered from living. Natalie is known as the “Smarty Pants.” Her other siblings called her smartypants because she wants to excel in her studies.

A Married Lady
While we did not know her GPA when she attended Hannibal-LaGrange University, we know that she has no problems in the department of love. In May 2019, she walked down the aisle with her college sweetheart, Shawn Geralds.

Nathan Is A Computer Geek
Ever since he was young, Nathan McCaughey has been interested in computers, making sense that he pursued a career in the field now. He shared with KCCI TV in 2015 that “I want to go into something with computers, probably into computer sciences,”

Nathan Is A Computer Geek
All About Computers
Nathan began to show his love of computers at a young age. He became increasingly interested in computers over the years. He then studied computer information systems at Hannibal Lagrange University with Joey, Kelsey, and Natalie. At the age of 22, he even plans to pursue a profession. When you’re young, it must have been nice to know what to do. He only concentrated on one thing he really wanted and is slowly reaching his aspirations now.

Joel “The Bookworm” McCaughey
We also have Joel McCaughey, who, thanks to his reading love, was nicknamed “the bookworm” by the other children. He liked computers too. I’ve always thought computers were really weird, but in a good way,” he told KCCI TV in 2015. He also majored at Hannibal-LaGrange University in computer information systems, just like Nathan. We were pleased they had someone who supported their passions!

Alexis Made It To The Cheerleading Squad
Alexis McCaughey was one of McCaughey’s young children with disorders. She was hypotonic with quadriplegia. It might, however, have looked that she didn’t have it at all during his high school days! After several operations, she finally proved to be already well after strengthening her leg muscles. When she joined her high school animating team, it was an enormous achievement for her. For her, it had been a dream.

Alexis Made It To The Cheerleading Squad
Pretty Impressive
She chose to take on a major in early childhood education at Hannibal-LaGrange University, which is pretty awesome. That has to be one of the most beautiful career paths out there! So, we’re incredibly impressed, naturally! For Alexis, it is wonderful to follow such a journey as this is one of the most admirable. It actually requires the love for young children, which we are quite sure it has!

Pretty Impressive
Brandon Joined The Army
One of the kids had taken a different career route. Brandon McCaughey’s call had been to serve in the military. He was stationed in the U.S. Army Infantry as part of overseas. When he returned home in August 2019, he got married to Alana Hale.

Wedding Registry
It was pleasing to see what kinds of things they had on their wish list in their wedding registry: cookware, storage, and gadgets. Perhaps this meant they wanted to stay a lot at home for dinner! We hoped that they would invite the rest of the family.

What Bobbi Had To Say About The Kids
There was a lot on Bobbi McCaughey’s plate, so it was a good thing that she could still turn to her faith when things got wild. It was indeed a great challenge for her and her husband, Kenny. Things may not always go their way, but fortunately, their family and friends support them until the sevenfold comes into existence. They were tremendously loved by different people and companies. Her strong faith was several times tested, but it was the only thing he held dearly when she and her family were insane. “That has been the rock that we have had to stand on,” she told Today when the children celebrated their 18th birthday.

What Bobbi Had To Say About The Kids
Empty Nest
Both Kenny and Bobbi should have found it difficult when all their children continued and stayed in the house. That was a big change because there were so many children in the house. They may be empty nests now as they call it, but their grandson, Beckham, is still there for them. Just now, they focus on the little child and their relationship.

Empty Nest
Missing Everyone
Perhaps one of the saddest parts of being a parent is to being left out by their children. You can stop them from exploring the world on their own because sooner or later they will also build their own family. It must be sad, but it meets the knowledge you have played your part as a parent. The McCaughey couple has the same feeling. “It’s been very different in some respects it’s been fun because Kenny and I have managed to do a lot more things, just the two of us, but obviously I kind of miss the business of having everyone at home. When they are home, it’s really enjoyable and something we look forward to a lot,” Bobbi said.

Missing Everyone
Now A Grandmother
“The love for them is the same, but the responsibility is so different,” she said to Today. “It’s just been fun to be able to visit and see the milestones and get to do all the fun things with (Beckham), but I don’t have to raise him.” Beckham, her grandson, could spend time with her when all her children left home. Of course, raising Beckham isn’t her responsibility, but she sometimes looks after him as a loving grandmother, alongside her husband.

Now A Grandmother
What Kenny Is Doing Now
To pursue a public speaking career, Kenny McCaughey chose to quit his billing clerk job at Chevrolet. He talked to pro-life organizations around the country and also held a press conference to address the “birth miracle.” The event took place at the same church in Iowa, where Bobbi was married.

What Kenny Is Doing Now
Reminiscing
On the septuplets’ 18th birthday, he spoke about what it was like to see the children’s birth. “For me, it was seeing them each come out of the womb. It was quite a sight to see that.” He was now a church deacon who visited elderly members of the church and operated a benevolence fund.

Helping Families With Multiples
Learning that Kenny and Bobbi were now supporting families who’ve been blessed with multiple births was heartwarming. We were sure they knew better than anyone how difficult it was to raise so many children all at once. In the world, nobody else knows better to have many children at the same time than the McCaughey couple. They were blessed with so many things from the beginning and should have shared the blessings with other families that experienced the same situation two decades ago.

Helping Families With Multiples
Learning From The Professionals
As we know, the McCaughey couple, Kenny and Bobbi, have helped various families in various areas. Based on its own expertise, Bobbi and Kenny knew how difficult it was to raise several children at the same time. The couple then expanded their arms to Mark Zimlich and Jeanette’s family from Alabama. They have five children at once! Kenny and Bobbi offered their help and shared their words of wisdom with the young couple.

Ensuring They Were Set
Not only did the McCaughey offer their assistance and tell their wise words, but also managed to get donations five times for the young couples! Bring us back to when so many donations have been received by the McCaughey couple. They could provide baby food, toys, clothes and other essential products. It is very warm to know that when he was seven times young, the couple could give back their blessings. They were also a blessing to other people because of their love and blessing.

Ensuring They Were Set
Turning 21!
In November 2018, the septuplets turned 21! Finally, they’re of legal age. You can drink, travel around the world, or do whatever you want. This is a huge achievement for the McCaughey couple in particular. The septuplets have become so beautiful adults and are ready to sprinkle champagne! The seven children celebrated their birthdays in different places because they are far from each other after they leave their homes. But in their family home, they had a large, complete and happy celebration!

Turning 21!
Worldwide Phenomenon
It was a global phenomenon in 1997 when the McCaughey was born. They also received enormous public attention. That is what they thought when they got old, realizing that they were not just ordinary kids. You thought it was a huge accomplishment, but it is much more surprising now that they’re grownups to see themselves as a person and follow different paths. They became brave and independent when they tried to lead their own lives.

Own Interests & Hobbies
Although they share the same womb and grow together, McCaughey’s septuplets have different personalities. They were able to have an interest in things at such a young age. Born with so many siblings, it is fun and satisfying to think that they don’t need more friends since they already have them every day in their home. But, that’s not the case for the septuplets of McCaughey. Even if their siblings are always around, they have succeeded in spending time with their friends.
