These large, vertical metal slabs were ten to twelve feet long and appeared out of nowhere in these areas. Excavators were digging beneath Rome in 2017 to build a new metro line. Because Rome is one of the oldest important cities, many intriguing objects were discovered. During the digging, for example, builders discovered the foundations of an opulent third-century mansion that had been burned in a fire. They also discovered a 1,800-year-old skeleton of a hunched dog that died in the fire. The fire halted the ruins, and the house, albeit burnt, was exceptionally well-preserved due to the ash. Experts claimed that this house belonged to a Celian Hill aristocrat.
