Rami Malek is best recognized for his intergalactic depiction of Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody, but Malek has had equal success on the small screen. Mr. Robot, a USA Network program, starred the actor from 2015 until 2019. By all accounts, the sitcom was critically acclaimed, which is why fans were shocked when it ended after only four seasons. Although some speculated that it was a network issue, showrunners clarified that it was always intended to run for a set number of seasons.

Originally, the filmmaker did not want to make a second season because the first was such a massive project, and the plot ends with a cliffhanger. However, in true Squid Game tradition, when Netflix began pressuring the director, he decided to film a second season.
