Status: Canceled
Network: CW
Est. Cost: $3 million per episode*

When Supergirl debuted in 2015, it proved to be a profitable investment for The CW, delivering the narrative of Kara Zor-El to a new audience. It’s difficult to establish a solid show in an era when superhero TV series are omnipresent – yet the network achieved it. Unfortunately for fans of AT&T’s DC character, the show will terminate after the sixth season. Melissa Benoist, the actress, will be saying farewell to her $75,000-per-episode salary as well as her role. She wrote on Twitter: “To say it’s been an honor portraying this iconic character would be a massive understatement.” The last season was released at the end of 2021.

The Masked Singer

Status: Renewed
Network:
 Fox
Est. Cost:
 $178,732 per costume*

The Masked Singer, hosted by Nick Cannon, had an uncertain future when it initially aired, with fans and critics alike wondering how it would succeed in a market already saturated with singing-based reality shows. TMS, on the other hand, has done exceptionally well, and Fox has extended the celebrity-packed reality show for a fifth season. The top-secret event pits celebrities against each other while they don masks and intricate clothes that reportedly cost about $180K each costume. Fans must guess the celebrity’s identity, which always takes over social media whenever fresh episodes air. Season 8 will premiere in the fall of 2022, as confirmed in May 2022.
