They traveled together in a cab back to their residence, and the ride was uncomfortably silent. Even his daughter was able to pick up on it, and she went to her father and requested that he tell her some stories about his travels. Jamie was well aware that he could not tell her everything, so he limited himself to telling her inconsequential anecdotes about his coworkers and the food.

When Jamie finally returned to his house, he immediately forgot about all of his concerns; he had been absent for all of this time. Even though many things had been updated and rearranged throughout the home, it maintained its signature odor and comforting sense of familiarity. After eating lunch with his loved ones, he went upstairs to take a short nap, but when he awoke several hours later, the house was deserted…
