When Nadia’s gymnastics coach and friend, Alexandru Stefu, shows up, things start looking up for her. Stefu was able to set up a meeting with her after much back-and-forth. Panait knew he was in hot water when Nadia disclosed his mistreatment of her in their relationship. In the end, he just took her money and ran. When she arrived in the United States, “this guy (Panait) kept me like I was in a prison,” she later recalled. “I was not allowed to dial any phone numbers by him. As a result, I was unable to contact my loved ones back in Romania. Immediately, I sensed that something was wrong… I had no choice but to stay put. A previous apartment of mine was too small, so I had to find a bigger one.” And, “He beat me,” she emphasized. “There are some things I don’t even want to remember, He punched her, black and blue,” Stefu expounded as he pointed to the side of his face. Nadia claimed there were no hard feelings between them even though Panait was the one who helped her leave Romania and come to the United States. Debt settled.

Nadia’s best friend, Alexandru Stefu, was killed in an accident not long after she exposed Panait’s evil deeds. She had found herself homeless and penniless in a strange land. Fortunately, Conner’s coach, Paul Ziert, offered to provide shelter for her. Therefore, she moved to Oklahoma to be with him and his family. It was a turning point in Bart’s and Nadia’s relationship when he took over as Nadia’s personal manager. They started hanging out together all the time and eventually became very close.
