Although Jessie had a lot of support from her friends and the community, one set of individuals was not as enthusiastic about her bold life choice: her family. My mom thought I was crazy. She would tell all the people in her apartment building, ‘My daughter is buying a bus to live in,’” She answered. “People thought it was a big undertaking but they thought if anyone could do it, it would be me.” She would finally win her family’s approval, though.

Jessie understood that even though she had the appropriate personnel to pull everything together, her vision was ultimately what mattered. If the bus conversion failed, she was responsible. She had to be meticulous, so she made sure everything was. “One of the hardest challenges was building walls and storage and closets in,” she said. “If the angle isn’t exactly the same every time you park [the bus], you might have an issue with opening a door or something like that.”
