When she was a kid, the cook struggled to make friends, thanks in part to her cruel nickname. Giada told The Chew that youngsters called her “Jabba the Hutt.” No, it wasn’t because Giada had a certain appearance or because she was a fan of the sci-fi franchise ‘Star Wars.’ ‘Star Wars’ was new at the time, and many kids in the area believed the names “Giada” and “Jabba” sounded similar. It didn’t take long for the moniker to catch on, and the chef was furious.

Although Giada De Laurentiis has lived in California for many years, this was not always the case. In fact, the chef was born in Italy. Giada was born and reared in Rome with her showbiz family; her father was a producer and performer, and her mother was an actress. Many other members of Giada’s family have also worked on films and television series. The chef, on the other hand, was more inspired by the flavors and food surrounding her and continues to use her Italian heritage to help produce the majority of her creations. Giada’s background meant that by the time her family moved to the United States, she hardly understood English. Students at school apparently used to use this against the child.
