Lynn Smith was magna cum laude when she graduated from Miami University in Ohio with a degree in mass communications. She was initially an intern at an affiliate station of NBC in Los Angeles, but she decided to move to the East Coast so she could pursue a career in broadcasting. Smith now works for CNN and its subsidiary HLN. She hosts On The Story as well as Weekend Express With Lynn Smith, which focuses on both national and international news.

She joined the MSNBC network as a legal analyst and an anchor.
