“It was completely run down and had been for 20-30 years,” Cal said, adding that the photo from the auction was probably taken a few years ago – and from a flattering angle. In their blog about the project, Cal and Claire wrote: “We are a young couple who have taken on a great task. We happened to have bought the Jameswood Villa, a run-down building that has been empty for over twenty years. Together we are taking it enormous task on us to restore this beautiful building.”

The Jameswood villa has stood vacant for 20 years. “Our roof has gaping holes leaving the beams exposed after years of rain in western Scotland and have rotted away and drainage problems have left our land under water which has caused serious structural subsidence problems.
