“I accidentally bought the wrong house,” Cal recalls. Claire, 26, added: “It was a bit further away than we had planned to commute. It’s about an hour to an hour and a half from Glasgow if you take the ferry.” He called Claire to ask her if she was okay with the £10,000 sale he’d accidentally gotten them into, but with his phone’s battery dead they had to make a quick decision.

After a quick chat, they agreed to move on – and they’ve since been renovating the house and documenting their process on Instagram at @whathavewedunoon. Luckily for the couple, who met on a ski trip in the French Alps, Cal is a skilled carpenter with experience restoring old homes. With Claire as their “apprentice”, they set to work restoring the Victorian home whose roof was collapsing, the beams were rotted and the wall was about to collapse.
