Not everyone believes that two separate species were responsible for the destruction of the historic trails that have been discovered. There has been a suggestion that they could have been formed by the same vertebrate passing through the area at different periods, for example. Whatever the truth may be, it is undeniable that the two sets of prints depict voyages that were undertaken at various speeds.

A lateral-sequence walk, as well as other methods of movement, appear to have been employed by at least one of the species. In an interview with The Arizona Republic published in August 2020, Rowland described this gait as one in which “where the left rear foot moves and then the left front, and then the right rear and the right front and so on.”
