Krill’s Pivotal Hike
There are still some surprises to be found in the Grand Canyon even though scientists and amateurs have spent decades searching for fossils there. And that brings us full circle back to Krill. In 2016, the geologist from Norway led a group of students on a hike along the Bright Angel Trail in Arizona. At the time of his departure, he probably had no idea that he would be playing a role in transforming our understanding of prehistoric life in the region.

Additionally, the Bright Angel Trail is rather impressive on its own. Taking off from Grand Canyon Village on the southern rim of the ravine, the path descends more than 4,000 feet to the Colorado River over the course of approximately eight miles. The trail also passes some well-known rock formations, including the Brahma Temple and the Cheops Pyramid, on its journey to its destination. In the end, though, it was something much more understated that piqued Krill’s interest.
