Fossilized Footprints

When the National Park Service (NPS) reported in May 2019 that a set of fossilized footprints had been discovered in a remote portion of the canyon, it was a major development in scientific circles. This sort of tetrapod (four-footed organism) was thought to have lived in the area approximately 280 million years ago, according to the findings. In addition, these monsters were so old that they had existed long before the dinosaurs did.

A Never-Seen-Before Species

After further investigation, paleontologists discovered that the tracks were a form of marking known as an Ichniotherium, which was discovered by chance. Although they were previously thought to be members of the diadectomorph tetrapod family, they had never been observed in a desert environment before. As a result of this discovery, interesting new information about the species that formerly roamed the Grand Canyon has been revealed to the public.
