Camden’s Promise
Among those who had been most impacted by his father’s plight was Camden, but now that Darreld was fit and had regained his vitality, the small boy was happy and content once more. Everything he had been dreading and worrying about had evaporated now that he knew his father would be around for many years to come. Camden also pledged to be the best student Nancy has ever had, according to Nancy. He was determined not to let his teacher down. His family had also entertained the idea of doing something else.

Increasing Public Awareness
Following Darreld’s and Nancy’s recovery, they explored what they could do to increase awareness about organ donation in their communities. They made the decision to bring it to the attention of the team at the University of Iowa Transplant Center, which they did initially. Nancy and Darreld were joined by members of the media who voiced their support for their goal. Others rallied to the family’s cause, as did the magnificent super teacher who had aided them by physically giving them part of herself in exchange for their assistance.
