Her Single Reached Top 10 In 1965
Patty Duke had tremendous success in 1965 when she was just starting out in the music business. In the United States, her track “Don’t Just Stand There” became a top ten smash. Duke’s first album included the song, which reached number seven on the charts. She would never have another single chart so high if she continued to pursue music. However, she did score another top 30 hit with the album’s tune “Say Something Funny.”
Her Boyfriend In The Show Was Much Older Than Her
Patty’s lover was portrayed as being the same age as her on The Patty Duke Show. However, Eddie Applegate, the actor, was eleven years older than Patty Duke in real life. Applegate also appeared on Nancy and The Lucy Show, in addition to The Patty Duke Show. He also starred in one film, A Ticklish Affair, which was a critical and commercial flop when it was released in 1963. In a 1999 reunion special, Applegate resumed his role as Patty Duke.
