Cold sores often seem to manifest themselves at the most inconvenient of times. A gigantic cold sore on your lip is never a good thing, especially the morning of a big job interview, wedding, or a date you’ve been looking forward to for quite some time. You can, however, calm and, in some cases, even reduce their severity by using a small amount of rubbing alcohol. Take a cotton ball and soak it in the rubbing alcohol before dabbing it on the cold sore before going to bed, and you’re done. It’s possible that it will be gone when you wake up in the morning!

If you’re having trouble keeping ticks off your dog, try using rubbing alcohol to keep them at bay instead. When you discover a tick on your dog, dab a small amount of rubbing alcohol on the tick’s body to kill it. In addition to cleaning your dog’s wound, this will lessen the tick’s grip, which will make it easier to remove from your dog. In addition, it will kill the tick.
