The staircase was not the only discovery made by the archaeologists and workmen in Silwan. They discovered that the steps lead to an important sacred place once they recognized the significance of the situation. In fact, it could be the most important one in Silwan. It had been buried beneath the ground for a long time.

The Second Temple
There were two temples down there once. The original one had been built by King David’s son. In 586 B.C., the First Temple was destroyed. The Second Temple, on the other hand, remained there until A.D. 70. At the time, a specific adversary had taken control of both Jerusalem and Silwan.
