Cigar and Liquor Assortment

The ocean liner was not only laden with cargo, but also with a wide variety of alcoholic beverages and cigarettes. Aside from the 15,000 bottles of beer, 850 bottles of liquor, 1,000 bottles of wine, and 8,000 cigars, other indulgences were offered. Among the offers were 7,500 pounds of bacon, 40,000 farm-fresh eggs, 1,000 loaves of bread, 75,000 pounds of beautiful beef, and 36,000 delicious oranges. Surprisingly, the average American consumed approximately 90 bottles of whiskey per year in the 1800s, meaning that this vast amount of booze could support a crew for a long voyage and possibly some loud celebrations along the way.
