However, Jamie chose to ignore his vision problems. He reasoned that the sounds of a man’s voice that he heard in the background of the subsequent phone conversations were simply the voices of his friends and relatives. He was able to successfully distance himself from the possibility of the reality until the very last day he was in Iraq. But when the day of the return finally arrived, Jamie discovered that she was in for a surprise.

After what seemed like an eternity, the jet came in for a landing, and the passengers were whisked away to the airport lobby, where their families were anxiously awaiting their return. Jamie searched high and low for his wife and daughter, but he was unable to locate them. He was by himself despite being surrounded by other families who were ecstatic to be together again. Was Jamie unable to visit the kids because their new “dad” wouldn’t let him?
