A Regular Day
It appeared to be an ordinary day. Delonda Walker, a McDonald’s manager, had gotten up, taken the train, and arrived at her Ybor City workplace. It went well. job. She had other ambitions and dreams, and while it was tedious at times, it paid the bills. What she didn’t expect was to run into one of Florida’s most notorious criminals on this particular day.

A Regular Day
Taking Her Routine For Granted
We take our routine for granted at times. We want our jobs to be the same every day, to see and talk to the same people; we expect things to last once we grow used to them. However, this isn’t always the case. The most cruel, wild, and scary side of life occasionally interrupts the routine; forces about which most people would prefer to be blissfully oblivious. That is exactly what occurred in this story.

Taking Her Routine For Granted
Typical Day In McDonald’s
It began as a typical day. Delonda didn’t despise her job, but she didn’t love it either. She had studied French literature at the University of Tampa, and while her ambition was to pursue a career in research, she was content with her current situation. So she got dressed, put on her uniform, and prepared for another day at work at the local McDonald’s where she worked as a manager. This day, though, was different.

Typical Day In McDonald’s
A Customer They Weren’t Expecting
Her shift was in the morning. Because her store was in a busy neighborhood, the majority of her customers were folks who worked nearby and came in for breakfast or lunch. She had grown accustomed to most of the faces she encountered on a regular basis in just a few months. Because there were so many repeat customers, one day seemed to blend into the next. This one, though, would be quite different.

A Customer They Weren’t Expecting
Something Felt Off With Him
She spotted a new customer who she had never seen before this time. This wouldn’t have to be anything out of the ordinary. There was, however, more to it. The new client had a strange, unsettling air surrounding him. Perhaps it was simply one of the street folks who used to congregate in that neighborhood. This one, though, was different. He didn’t only appear strange and out of place; the way he handled himself implied a menace. Delonda felt nervous just seeing him walk through the door.

Something Felt Off With Him
She Felt Off
But she dismissed it. Why would she be afraid in the first place? What could be the worst-case scenario? It was most likely simply some strange guy on the street. It was a little creepy, but she hoped that was the end of it. But she couldn’t ignore the notion that something wasn’t quite right about this man.

She Felt Off
Staying Calm
Delonda felt a shudder run up her spine as the man approached the counter and peered at the menu above her head. But she made an effort to remain composed and ask the man what he wanted. As she waited for him to respond, she couldn’t shake the feeling that something was wrong.

Staying Calm
Almost Over
Finally, the gentleman placed an order from the menu. Delonda felt relieved; she knew her time with the frightening customer was coming to an end soon. All she had to do was bring him his order, accept his payment, and watch him leave. The customer received his order and paid in cash. But then he did something Delonda hadn’t anticipated.

Almost Over
He Threw A Suspicious Bag
The strange man threw a plastic bag into the garbage as fast as he could and hurriedly moved to the door as he left the restaurant. Delonda was confused. Was this some kind of joke? It was already one of the strangest transitions in recent memory. She decided to investigate the bag in the trashcan. Her heart skipped a beat as she saw what she saw.

He Threw A Suspicious Bag
Gun Inside
A gun was hidden inside the bag! Delonda’s stomach sank, and her heart began to race. Was the individual a felon? Was he just a jerk or a creep? She made sure the firearm was loaded, which it was. She was terrified as she had never been before and immediately reported the occurrence to the authorities.

Gun Inside
The Cops Were Involved
A police car soon arrived at Delonda’s McDonald’s, took the weapon, questioned Delonda a few questions about the man who handed it to her and returned to the station. Delonda was nervous for the next three days, wondering who that strange man with the pistol was. She received a crucial call not long after.

The Cops Were Involved
They Got Him
The Tampa Police Department had been looking for the man with the gun and thought they had found him. He is currently being held at the station. They only wanted Delonda to come to the police and establish that the man she had seen at McDonald’s was the same. She went over to see who it was, and it was, indeed, him.

They Got Him
It Felt Tense
Delonda was a little startled to see his face again. His sinister atmosphere was still evident even when she pointed him out from behind a one-way mirror. Delonda pointed him out without hesitation. Delonda couldn’t help but feel like he was watching her, even though she knew he couldn’t see her. His fury was visible in his eyes, and he was glaring at her.

It Felt Tense
An Agonizing Wait
Delonda had to endure an unpleasant wait after the line-up. Delonda was left in the station’s waiting area with no idea who the man was or what she had gotten herself into. Delonda got more apprehensive by the minute as time passed. Detective Sergeant Jeremy Williams, the case’s lead officer, arrived after what seemed like an age.

An Agonizing Wait
A Chilling News
Officer Williams approached Delonda with a solemn expression on his face. He led her into his office and invited her to sit down. His expression had gone stone and was now unreadable when he faced her. He replied, “Delonda, the man you identified is a dangerous criminal,” and his words certainly terrified Delonda.

A Chilling News
Things Kept Getting Worse
Delonda was still reeling from the news when she observed Sergeant Williams staring at her with a cold stare. Cold fear gripped her once more at that instant. As if this revelation wasn’t terrifying enough, she sensed he wasn’t done yet. The next thing he said terrified her to death.

Things Kept Getting Worse
She Was Terrified
Delonda was already frightened by the fact that a dangerous criminal had entered her business with a loaded pistol. Her mind couldn’t stop replaying all the worst-case possibilities of how much worse things could have gotten. There seems to be something much terrible about this man now. Delonda listened to the news with bated breath, unable to fully believe what she was hearing.

She Was Terrified
More Than A Dangerous Criminal
Detective Williams emphasized calmly that this man was not simply a dangerous criminal. In a serial killer case, he was the prime suspect. Delonda’s ears rang at the words “serial killer.” Her whole body began to shake with fear. She had so many questions. Would he realize she was the one who pointed him out? Was he able to recall her appearance? Will he be set free? Is he able to return to the store?

More Than A Dangerous Criminal
Gathering Evidence
After witnessing Delonda’s fear after receiving the news, Detective Williams did his best to comfort her and that she would be fine. He went on to say that this individual was the most likely offender who had been terrorizing the Tampa area for quite some time. The police had been gathering evidence against him, but it was all speculative at this point.

Gathering Evidence
The Suspect
Howell Emanuel Donaldson III, a graduate of St. John’s University in New York, was the suspect, according to Detective Williams. He had been a member of the men’s basketball team as a walk-on. After more than a year in Tampa, it appears that Howell had a darker side that no one knew about. The evidence against him was building, but it wasn’t quite enough yet.

The Suspect
Camera Footage
Detective Williams went on to say that they had acquired and reviewed the store’s surveillance footage. Unfortunately, there was no actual footage of Howell throwing the bag into the garbage because of a blindspot at the vital location. As a result, there was only one way to construct a case.

Camera Footage
A Crucial Request
Delonda had already been disturbed by the experience. Detective Williams was attempting to maintain her composure. Following that, her stress levels began to rise. Detective Williams was visibly nervous now that he knew he needed to make a request of her. Delonda’s jaw dropped with dread when he did.

A Crucial Request
She Won’t Do It
Delonda had become the police’s most valuable asset in the investigation because she was the only material witness who could link the suspect to the pistol. She knew what was coming before he could even ask, but she also knew she didn’t want anything to do with it. Delonda would have to testify in court against the suspect.

She Won’t Do It
No Choice
Detective Williams made every effort to put her at ease. He emphasized that if she didn’t testify, the suspect would have to be freed, which meant he’d be back on the streets. Delonda eventually gave in, understanding she had little alternative. She just had one more critical question to ask at this point. She was too terrified to help without it.

No Choice
Worried For Her Safety
Delonda was clearly concerned that participating, in this case, might jeopardize her safety. Detective Williams assured her that he would protect her at all costs. That portion didn’t bother her nearly as much. She was well-educated enough to understand the judicial system. Her main concern was whether he would be released on bail throughout the trial.

Worried For Her Safety
She Must Do It
Detective Williams stated that if she gave a statement outlining what she had seen in the store, that, along with her readiness to testify, would be enough to prevent him from being released on bail. Delonda was feeling a little better, but she was still apprehensive about everything. She realized she had a responsibility to do something for the victims. Finally, she agreed.

She Must Do It
Justice Must Be Served
As promised, Detective Williams’ statement was sufficient to get the suspect’s bail revoked. Now comes the long wait for the trial. Delonda was terrified and paranoid the entire time, but she was determined to assist solve the case. This man was a monster who deserved to be punished. The trial got underway quickly.

She never looked at Howell Emanuel Donaldson when he initially appeared in court. She heard testimony about how he had a bright future but had lost his way when the case began. It was finally her turn to give her testimony.

During The Trial
Recalling The Details
Despite her worries, Delonda confronted him and described in detail how she had witnessed him tossing the bag in the trash. The evidence was sufficient to link him to the gun. The pistol had already been linked to other crimes, and the evidence was enough to convict Howell Emanuel Donaldson III, who was sentenced to life in prison, and Delonda was finally free.
