This is a story about some fishermen who found something they did not expect whatsoever one day on the job. This discovery made them test their limits and the boundaries of their friendship. It started like any other fishing day, although it morphed into a rescue mission not long after they found an animal on top of an iceberg. You will be glad to hear that they decided to act out of the goodness of their hearts instead of going about their own way. Are you ready to believe in the goodness of mankind once again?
The Trio
Cliff Russel, Allan Russel, and Mallory Harrigan are three good friends who always liked to go fishing as a group. It made a lot of sense for them to turn their little hobby into an actual business. They pooled some money together to buy a fishing boat and started a fishing company.

The Trio
One Boat
Although it was a small company, they liked what they were doing. They only had three people on the team and a single boat, but it was not a problem. On the bright side, they lived in Canada, not at all far from a great fishing area. They also knew what the market and consumers were like over there.

One Boat
Into The Unknown
However, there was no way to tell what was waiting for them out at sea whenever they headed out. They never assumed that it was going to be an easy day for them. However, this day was different.

Into The Unknown
Fishing Lifestyle
Did you know that fishing might just be one of the most demanding careers out there? Fishermen need to get up very early to prepare and plan what they have to do at sea. When they are finally out on the water, they need to spend a lot of energy and time getting as many fish as they can. If you do this on a day to day basis, you will also get used to it. For Mallory, Cliff, and Allan, it was worth it to spend time together.

Fishing Lifestyle
Built On Friendship
However, fishing is not something to laugh about. It can break up even the strongest bonds in the world. There was even a chance it would put an end to the friendship among these three fishermen. It was a good thing that the three of them were all in this together. To this day, they remain good friends even though it has been a while since they started the business. Working together only brought them closer.

Built On Friendship
Job Duties
The job often involves long workdays and sailing on dangerous conditions. They normally return late in the evening, often finding new bumps, bruises, and minor injuries on their bodies. Even though it was not easy, they did not mind it because they liked it.

Job Duties
Hard At Work
Not a single one of them had any complaints about the hardships they went through every time they went out to fish. They have never thought about quitting either! The three of them were fond of each other and enjoyed the work involved in the fishing business. They continue to motivate each other as well!

Hard At Work
Morning
The story began when Mallory and the team went out to fish one bright morning. The Canadian crab fishermen from Labrador went to the harbor early that day. It looked just like a regular day for all three of them.

Morning
One Fine Day
As you can tell, they had not one clue that this day was going to change their lives forever. The three of them worked to prepare for yet another day out at the sea. Among them, Mallory felt particularly good about the day ahead of them. However, there was no way she suspected what fate had in store.

One Fine Day
Just Like Any Other Day
She got up even earlier than she usually did. She then went ahead to get everything ready before her pals even arrived. She felt motivated and cheerful about the trip. The boat was nearly ready by the time they joined her at the harbor.

Just Like Any Other Day
Lists
Once all three of them were present, they consulted the checklist they had with them. They drew up this list so that they can check it before they headed out to fish. This helped remind them of everything that they needed to do before they went out to sea.

Lists
Preparation
It was very important for them to make sure that they did not miss anything on this list. If they forgot about anything, they would need to return to the dock and grab whatever it was. They did not want this to happen since it would mean a longer day at work. This is why it was important to tick everything off.

Preparation
Heading Out To The Sea
Who would have thought that the easiest part of the job was the preparation of the boat? They liked to pass the time by talking to one another and horsing around. The three of them might know each other for practically forever, although they never ran out of things to discuss.

Heading Out
A New Day
Every morning, they would act like they had not seen each other in a very long time. You might assume this because they did not ever run out of things to talk about. On that fateful day, this was also the case. The three fishermen worked together to make sure everything was fine, although they always had a smile on their face. They did not know that something big was going to happen later that day.

A New Day
The Calm Before The Storm
This might be what they call the “calm” before the storm. The water was also behaving very well on that fine morning. They took their boat out to a great crabbing spot right off the Canadian coast. They needed to cross several miles to get there, but it was worth it since they always had a great catch there.

The Calm Before The Storm
Dropping Their Baskets
Once they got there, they turned off the engine of their boat and remained in that spot. This has always been a great spot to catch crabs. They hoped that it would also be the case on that day. They then went to set the crab pots in place and threw them on the ocean floor. They hoped there were lots of crustaceans in that spot! Of course, they had to wait a while before they could do anything else.

Dropping Baskets
Record-Breaking Year
They had to wait and let the cages sit on the ocean floor for a little while so that the crabs could get into them and reach for the bait. Even though crab season was almost coming to a close, the three of them hoped that they would get lucky one last time.

Record-Breaking Year
Out Of Luck
Over the past few weeks, they had been pretty lucky. They caught a lot of crabs during the last few trips they made. However, they knew that it was possible they were out of luck. They had a great record that year, so hopefully, this would remain true.

Out Of Luck
Omen In Crabs
The three of them split up the load by putting one person in charge of manning the boat. Meanwhile, the other two worked the lines and ensure that there were no tangles there. This was routine for them, so they knew the ropes already. Things were going smoothly on that day, but what happened next?

Omen
Best Day
When it was time for them to retrieve the cages, they could not believe what they saw. It looked like this was going to be a great workday! They exchanged high fives and then pulled out the catch. After this, they returned the cages in the water and did the same thing again.

Best Day
A New Fishing Spot
They went about their job as they usually did. The good news was that the crabs kept coming as well. Was this going to be the day that they broke their record? They had yet to find out. They finished working in that spot because they wanted to test their luck somewhere else. It was time to head to the icier waters this time. However, the farther out they went, the more dangerous it was going to be.

New Fishing Spot
Dangerous Waters
It was hard to see birds when one is so far away from the shore! However, everything already seemed calm and peaceful. However, this was not the case. It would seem like even the seals on the icebergs knew about the potential dangers that surrounded them.

Dangerous Waters
One Wrong Turn
There were a lot of icebergs floating around in the Labrador Sea. Even the fishermen with the most skill and experience will consider it dangerous. A single wrong turn or missed detail can mean the end of the trip… if not their lives.

One Wrong Turn
Something Up Ahead
Allan was the one who had been on lookout duty when a huge iceberg came into view. As he navigated around the huge chunk of ice, something there caught his attention. They were no strangers to seeing icebergs, although there was something different about this one.

Something Up Ahead
Something Off
The sun had been shining very brightly on that specific day. This made it difficult for them to get a close look at the huge thing right in front of the boat. When Mallory and Cliff went there after Allan asked them to take a look, they could also tell that there was something about this particular iceberg.

Something Off
The Iceberg Appears!
As the boat came closer, they had a better view of the thing right in front of them. It turns out that there was a dark spot on the iceberg, although they could not see what it was from where they stood. Mallory told them that it might be a seal lying on top of the iceberg. Was she right about that? Let us see.

Iceberg
Taking A Closer Look
Cliff thought that she must be right. There was a good chance that the animal on that spot is nothing more than a little seal. This was nothing unusual in places like this right? However, Allan trusted his gut and would not let it go. Something about the scenario did not sit right with him.

Closer Look
What Could It Be?
After Allan looked at the animal with the use of his binoculars, he informed the crew that it did not look like a seal. Something about it did not move or act in the way that seals do. After they inspected the creature some more, they could tell that there was something strange about this animal. It seems like Allan had been on the right track the whole time.

What Could It Be?
Getting Closer
The truth was that the three of them still had a half-day of fishing left. However, they all agreed that it might be more important to inspect the animal atop the iceberg. They were too curious to let it go by then! They wanted to learn what this creature on top of the iceberg was. A closer look was in order. The temperature was beginning to drop, and the wind was starting to pick up.

Getting Closer
The Investigation
It was dangerous for them to stray from the usual route. However, Allan convinced Cliff and Mallory to do it anyway. If they did not listen to him, they would have missed out on the experience of a lifetime!

Investigation
Approaching
The three of them agreed that they had to find out the answers to their questions. Even though Mallory and Cliff did not think it was all that urgent, Allan changed their minds. None of them was willing to let a suffering animal die out there in the cold. With that decision made, they started to go up to the iceberg.

Approaching
Chilling Temperatures
It soon became clear to them that this animal was not a seal at all. After all, it had fur that had been completely soaked through. The wind was starting to chill the place, so this tiny animal might not make it. That was the moment they all knew they had no choice but to help out. While they still did not know what this creature is, they did not hesitate to act in the most compassionate way they could.

Chilling Temperatures
Advance Slowly
It was very important for them to take it slowly while they moved towards it through the icy waters. The boat can get damaged by a single chunk of ice below it. It can even capsize and leave the trio stranded. They were trying to help the animal, not join it. They made sure to stay alert while during the rescue mission they were carrying out.

Careful
Constant Watch
What made it even more difficult for them was the fact that the waves began to climb higher and higher as well. The movement of the boat started to become even more precarious. Mallory warned Cliff and Allan to be even more careful. They were all excited and curious now that they were closer to the iceberg. However, they knew that it was important not to let their guard down.

Constant Watch
Rough Seas
Sadly, the winds started to get even stronger. The boat started rocking and so did the iceberg. The three of them knew they could deal with the waves, but they did not know how the animal felt about this.

Rough
Ice Blocks
At this point in time, they had more things to worry about than simple ice chunks in the water. Mallory feared that the animal was going to jump into the water because the movement scared it. She wanted to get closer to see what they could do to help.

Ice Blocks
Pursuing A Piece Of Ice
The waves and wind made things more difficult for them. The iceberg was starting to drift farther and farther away. They all felt worried about the boat and their safety. Of course, they wanted the animal to be safe as well! It was just pacing on the surface of the iceberg.

Pursuing Ice
Tricky Circumstances
They wanted to stick close to the iceberg, so they had to speed up. It made the navigation even trickier, to say the least. It was a dangerous situation that only got worse because it was beginning to get dark. It would be a terrible idea to stay out in the water after night has fallen.

Tricky Circumstances
Getting A Glimpse
As they started to move closer to the iceberg, they got a good look at the animal. They noticed that it looked a lot like a dog and stood on four legs as well. However, they knew that this was no puppy. After all, there was no way for something like that to get up there.

Getting a Glimpse
Helpless
They could see that the animal, whatever it was, had been shivering and soaking. They decided to move faster if they wanted to get the creature to safety. They needed to make sure that it was not going to freeze to death. They did this even though they knew it was going to make things more dangerous.

Helpless
Arctic Fox
As they approached the iceberg, they finally had the chance to take a good look at this animal. They saw that it was actually an Arctic fox! However, they did not have the time to figure out how it got up there. This animal already looked so weak and cold. What made it even worse was all the birds flying right above it.

Arctic Fox
Not A Family Pet
It looked like the other animals in the area could tell that this animal was about to die. This motivated the trio to work even more quickly and more determinedly. They already made up their minds that they were going to get the fox out of this mess. The crew put the fishing on hold so that they could deal with this situation. They made up their minds and went with their plans regardless of how dangerous it was.

Not A Pet
A Bold Rescue Attempt
This fox was cold, wet, and dying. Time was of the essence in this situation. They had to look for a way to keep it safe, but they had one more hurdle before they could do that. Was it going to trust them?

Bold Attempt
Good Intentions
They had no idea if the animal had ever come into contact with humans before. This was important since a lot of wild animals tend to act viciously when they feel threatened. Even though the group had good intentions, they might lose their chance to save it if it was not receptive to their efforts.

Good Intentions
A Wild Fox
The first thing that they wanted to do was to tame the animal. They held out their hands after they got closer. They also talked to it in a calm and low voice. A tame animal would come to them right away.

Wild Fox
Getting Away
However, there is a huge difference between a tamed house pet and a wild Arctic fox. This animal only tried to get away from them. There was nowhere else to run, so it was stuck on the iceberg with them. It merely stared at the people trying to help. They could tell that it was not planning to come near them.

Getting Away
A Waiting Game
They went through several failed attempts to tame the fox. After this, they figured out that it was not going to come to them right away. They tried to be patient and settled there. They decided to wait.

Waiting Game
Progress
At last, it seems like their plan worked. They took a short rest and kept their boat right beside the iceberg. Eventually, the fox started to go up to the boat. It must have realized that this was the only way it could get out of that situation. However, was it going to trust them and hop aboard the boat?

Progress
The Rescue
The fox came up to their boat with caution. However, it was still too weak to make the leap from the ice to the boat. Allan tried to help it by picking it up and then bringing it inside the boat. Did his plan work?

The Rescue
Back In The Water
The three of them knew that it was safer on the boat than outside of it. However, the fox was not all that wise. It was alarmed by their approach and then dove back into the icy water! Mallory, Allan, and Cliff all watched in horror as it tried to return to the iceberg. They knew that it was not a good idea to let it stay there. Using the boat, they followed the animal around until it was exhausted.

Back In The Water
Back Into The Boat
It was at that point that Allan then scooped it out from the water and brought it back to the boat. It still seemed scared and tried to escape from them. It huddled in the corner, and the trio could see that it was very cold and wet. Its health only got worse, which led the three fishermen to feel more worried.

Back Into The Boat
Unanswered Questions
The cold and the wind only ruffled its wet fur. Allan and Cliff had towels at the ready to warm and dry the poor animal, but they did not want to risk getting attacked by it. How long was it going to take before the fox trusted them? Was it going to survive the harsh conditions of the high seas?

Unanswered Questions
Saving A Fox
They needed to warm up the fox before it could die of the cold. Mallory decided to take it upon herself to steer the boat back to the dock. However, they were not quite near the shore just yet. They had a couple of miles more to cross before they could dock the boat.

Saving a Fox
Time Is Of The Essence
They knew that the fox did not have a lot of time left. Allan and Cliff stayed there watching the animal, hoping that it would let them warm it up. As they kept an eye on this poor creature, they started to come up with other ways to help it without risking their personal safety. They wanted it to feel at home.

Time Is Of The Essence
A Warm Bed
Mallory was the one who came up with a great way to keep the animal dry and warm. She said that it might work if they created a nest for it. The men only found sawdust on the boat and decided to give it a shot. They took some sawdust and fashioned a warm bed for this animal. Was their plan going to work?

A Warm Bed
Trying To Keep Warm
They put the sawdust in some plastic bin where they wanted the fox to rest in. Warmth and security were of top priority. The fox then buried itself in the wood flakes. They figured out where the sunniest spot on the boat was and put the bin there. They hoped it was going to be enough to keep it warm.

Trying To Keep Warm
The Fox’s Bed
The next thing they had to do was the convince it to rest in the bed. This animal seemed to feel more comfortable with Allan, so he was the one to pick it up and put it in the bin full of sawdust. A couple of minutes after this, the animal curled up and then promptly fell asleep.

Fox’s Bed
Racing Back To Shore
While the animal was asleep, they made their way back to the shore. The poor fox was warm and alive now, but they knew that it would need more help to survive that terrible experience. What else can they do for the poor creature?

Racing Back To Shore
An Adjusted Course
They had another half-hour left to cross when Cliff decided to take over the wheel. He knew that they would have to change up the course if they wanted to get to the shore even sooner. After all, they could not tell just how long the fox had left. The sooner they could get out of the boat, the better it would be.

Adjusted Course
Terrified & Tired
When the boat got struck by a wave, the fox shot up in a panic. It was clearly exhausted and scared. They tried to calm it down by giving it some of the seafood they caught earlier that day. They hoped that it was going to eat the food and regain a little strength.

Terrified & Tired
Success
Their attempt to keep it comfortable and warm with the makeshift bed proved to be successful. Mallory then tried to feed the poor animal some crab and fish. However, it did not seem to be fond of seafood! They knew that it was hungry, but it seems to be a little picky.

Success
No Crabs, Please!
Mallory thought of another idea. She headed to the galley and went through some of the food they eat. They had some Vienna sausages, so she soaked the meat in water and then gave it to the fox. This suited the animal better! The fox ate the sausages she offered and started to eat for the first time in a while.

Sausages
Safe Return
After it got its fill of the food that was offered to it, the fox returned to sleep. It continued to doze off until they got to the shore. The noise made it panic again, so Mallory tried to keep it calm. Sadly, it was too noisy for comfort. Mallory tried to talk to it in a soothing voice. She hoped that this would keep the animal calm enough until they could finish the process of docking the boat.

Safe Return
Calming Words
She had been sitting near the makeshift bed, talking to it the entire time. Of course, she knew that it was not going to understand her. However, she thought that the tone of her voice would help make it feel calmer. What she needed to do was to stay still until they could dock and then disembark.

Calming Words
A Home For The Fox
When they got to the Canadian shore, they had to think of the next steps to take regarding the fox. All thanks to their efforts, it was now full, dry, and warm. It was a good thing Mallory had one more idea.

Home
The Perfect Spot
She told them about a spot that might be the best place for the fox. They could release it somewhere that was not that far away. This place did not have any lurking dangers, which meant it was going to be the best place to reintroduce the animal to nature. They decided to keep an eye on it, of course.

The Perfect Spot
The Fox’s New Home
The place Mallory had in mind was somewhere safe and lovely. We can all agree that the fox needed and deserved such a home! It worked out even better than they thought since it came with a small dog house. It was only 10 minutes away from the dock too. They did not know the exact location of the dog house, however, which is why they spent some time looking around for it.

A New Home
Quite Content
Cliff walked around with his friends. He was the one who was carrying the little fox, of course. It was surprising that the fox no longer seemed scared at all. It looked like it was content in his arms as it waited for what they did next. It took some time, but they finally located the dog house. Whew.

Quite Content
A Successful Rescue
They let the fox make most of the decisions. The trio put the bin on the ground, just beside the dog house. After this, they stepped back to see what the fox was going to do next. They kept a close eye on it since they wanted to see it explore the surroundings.

Success
Apprehension
This fox only stayed in the bin for a little while, but it began to climb out of it soon enough. It shook off the sawdust from its fur and began to look around the place. The fox sat at the mouth of the dog house.

Apprehension
Settling In
The fox started to settle in. It explored the area that it would call home from then on. At last, it was no longer in danger. The crew felt very relieved that this poor creature was finally safe at last. If they did not see it on top of the iceberg, it would not be here.

Settling In
Just To Be Sure
The fishermen then stuck around to ensure that the fox was not going to run into any problems there. They kept an eye on it as it roamed around and became acquainted with the new environment. It looked ready to settle in! What a relief.

Just To Be Sure
Slowly Making Its Way
After this, the only thing for the fishermen to do was to head back to the dock. They managed to do a good thing this time, but they were far too tired. There is no chance that they would forget this moment. The little adventure has since become an amazing memory for all three of them!

Slowly Making Its Way
Long Day
While they did not have an easy job at all, this particular day was even more draining than usual. We also mean that in the emotional sense of the word! They could not wait to get back to the boat and go home. They needed to rest after everything they went through.

Long Day
When All Is Said And Done
As they made their way home, they could not help but stare in wonder at the scenery that greeted them. It is the kind of thing that they have gotten used to over the years. However, it looked especially beautiful on that particular day for some reason.

Internet Post
After the incredible adventure they experienced, Mallory Harrigan put this photo up on Instagram with the caption, ‘Managed to nurse this little baby back to health the other day with @cliffordrussell9455 and @alanrussell7 🐺 His fur should be brown by now but he was on that piece of ice for so long that it never changed color.’
