Ichabod Crane

The name Ichabod Crane may sound familiar, as he appeared in Washington Irving’s 1820 story The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. However, Irving never claimed that Colonel Ichabod Crane was based on a real person. However, the real Ichabod Crane was born in 1787 and had a nearly 50-year military career. Chief Seattle

Washington state is the birthplace of Chief Seattle, a prominent leader of the Suquamish and Duwamish tribes. He was born in 1786. His efforts to build relationships with white settlers in the Pacific Northwest led to the naming of Seattle in his honor. The year 1864 is clearly visible in this photograph.
