On a plane, there are always a lot of things going on. You put all kinds of individuals in a little place, but the majority of them live in their own little universe. Sometimes to the chagrin of others. You watch videos on the internet of individuals being thrown off planes but never imagine it happening to you.

This was also Maria’s opinion. She enjoyed seeing those films but never anticipated them to come true. She was getting ready to board a 14-hour flight and was waiting at the gate. She looked around at the individuals and wondered if any of them would raise a commotion. It was innocent until it was proven to be true.

She observed a couple sitting beside her. Based on their body language, she classified them as “could potentially cause a scene.” Her attention was then drawn to a girl her own age. She classified her as “unlikely to cause a commotion.” She did this for everyone present.

There were 45 minutes till the gate would open. She had exhausted practically all of her mental games, so she just listened to music and gazed out the window. Maria found traveling alone lonely; she wasn’t the type to strike up a conversation with a stranger, but that was about to change.

When the gate eventually opened, a line began to develop. Maria was about halfway down the line when she heard a lot of sighs from behind her. People in the front of the line were causing consternation. One of the guests’ boarding passes appeared to be defective.

It was the girl, who was about Maria’s age. When her boarding pass failed, she yelled at the employees. Maria’s predictions came close to coming true until the problem was fixed and the girl strolled past the barrier. The line finally moved again, but it wasn’t over yet.

She walked along the tight walkway with her trolley behind her, zigzagging individuals who were preparing to take a seat left and right. She could see the girl she loathed while counting the seats. It brought her anxiety when it finally hit her. “Well, it’s better than sitting next to her, at least,” she reasoned. It became increasingly evident what kind of person Maria was dealing with: she was simply ignoring her request.

Maria decided to ask her again just to be sure. Maybe the girl was just daydreaming and had been so absorbed in her thoughts that she hadn’t spotted her. “Hello? “Can you hear me?” she asked again, but she was ignored. Maria was now certain that the girl was merely pretending not to hear her.

Maria slumped back against the back of her seat, perplexed and surprised. She forgot how haughty people might be and began to envision what kind of pampered upbringing this girl had. She sighed at first, but she didn’t want things to go away so quickly. This girl was moving her hair in some way.

She began to think of all the different ways she might make this girl move her hair. Maria jotted it down on the plane brochure, beginning with “her moving it herself,” then “pulling her hair,” and so on. Should a flight attendant be notified?
