Frank Zappa

Frank Zappa, a nonconforming free-form improviser who died of lung cancer in 1993, was a pioneer of nonconforming free-form improvisation. Zappa was a prolific musician who released more than 60 albums as a solo artist and with his band, Mothers of Invention. Zappa is a self-taught guitarist who is widely considered as one of the twentieth century’s most influential guitarists. Zappa later conducted orchestras and released jazz and classical music CDs in his senior years.
