Tom was the name of the homeless man in question. He had been residing on the streets and pleading for donations for the previous two years in order to survive. In reality, he only connected with Marianna by chance. They were unaware at the time of what this meeting would ultimately bring them.

It was a relatively quiet day when it suddenly began to rain. Not just a few water drops either. It appeared as though the sky had suddenly started to descend. Outside, everyone needed to find some sort of shelter, and Tom just so happened to pick Marianna’s cafe. Or was it perhaps not such a big coincidence…?

Marianna was afraid that having any hobo in her cafe would scare off any potential paying customers, so she did not want them there. She then made an effort to re-enter Tom outside and back into the rain. She simply could not be handling this at this time. But then the homeless man showed up with a surprising proposal.

Marianna was a little surprised by this offer. The idea of hiring a homeless man to work in the restaurant had never even occurred to her. The toilet was in desperate need of being cleaned once more, so she decided to give Tom a chance despite her initial, understandable reluctance.

And since the rain was still falling, Tom immediately enquired as to whether there was anything else he could do. Marianna decided that it was at least worthwhile to verify his claims that he had experience working in a restaurant.

Although there were no other customers present and no orders either at the time, she hadn’t eaten lunch herself and assumed that Tom was also probably quite hungry. She decided to take a chance and let Tom use the kitchen to prepare lunch for the two of them.

Upon hearing this offer, Tom could not help but allow a small smile to appear on his face. Additionally, he was not giving Marianna the opportunity to change her mind. He hadn’t eaten well in days, but now that he had the chance to impress her as well, he was going to give it everything he had.

And so, after 30 minutes, he emerged from the kitchen carrying a platter that tasted lovely. There was a sandwich, some tasty potato wedges, and a little homemade soup. None of which could be found on the cafe’s menu. Marianna was so impressed by this homeless man’s abilities!

She made the immediate decision to hire him! She offered him the chance to spend the night in the cafe and would even pay him a wage of a portion of the tips. Although it wasn’t much, Tiom readily accepted the offer because it was a lot more than the homeless man had previously.

She didn’t know why he had left, but she was aware that the only way she could win was to track him down and beg him to return. As they had anticipated receiving some free food from him now that he had a new job, they were actually quite disappointed in him.

The person who posted the image was extremely irate that the “homeless master chef” was being treated in this manner. It was a picture of Tom waiting in line at the food bank.

A wave of embarrassment began to rise inside Marianna. Despite the fact that she had nothing to be ashamed of. She hadn’t exactly sent Tom on his way, either. Even better, he was free to take as much food as he wanted from the kitchen. But why didn’t he simply do that?

Marianna moved swiftly to get to the food bank. She had faith that Tom would still be there. or at least someone who could inform her of where he went. She was worried about how people would perceive her there, but she also understood that there was nothing else she could do.

Marianna obtained the information she sought after dropping a few dollars into some beggarly cups, but it was not what she had hoped to hear. Tom had been here, but he hadn’t discussed his recent two weeks at the restaurant with anyone. even when he was questioned about it.

When avoiding questions about it was not possible, he simply cut off the conversation. He made sure to avoid any inquiries about it. At the food bank, he was still far from the front of the line. He was about halfway through when he abruptly left, probably tired of all the inquiries.

Marianna had hoped inwardly that he might have returned to the eatery in the interim, but they were pointing entirely in the opposite direction. He appeared to be trying to get as far away from her cafe as possible.
