Chuck Norris unexpectedly worked as an Air Policeman in the United States Air Force from 1958 to 1962. After leaving the military, Norris began competing in martial arts tournaments, which he eventually turned into a company. He started a chain of karate schools, beginning with one in his hometown of Torrance, California. In 1968, he became acquainted with Bruce Lee, a fellow martial artist and actor who was well-known at the time for his role in the television series The Green Hornet. Norris made his acting debut in 1969 with the film The Wrecking Crew. Norris has also appeared in infomercials for Total Gym’s home exercise equipment.
