It’s no secret that adjusting to a college lifestyle can be tricky for some people, especially when it comes to trying to figure out how to maintain a healthy lifestyle while you’re in a new and unfamiliar environment. It’s easy to fall into the trap of eating junk food, staying up late, and using “I walk to class” as an excuse to not work out, but we have some expert-tips here to help you keep your healthy and happy lifestyle afloat! How To Make Sure You’re Staying Healthy In College

Try To Get Eight Hours Of Sleep Every Night

We know it can be hard to achieve this goal, but trust us, it’s absolutely possible. You never want to be the first one to leave the party or the first one to head to bed for the night, but in the long run, your body will thank you. Studying while you’re exhausted is way more difficult than studying after you’ve gotten a full night’s sleep, too. It’s actually proven that your brain functions much better when it’s had time to reset while you sleep. Do yourself a huge favor and get to bed early as often as you can.

Make Yourself A Realistic Fitness Schedule

We’ve all been there: you tell yourself you’ll work out at the gym seven days a week, which then turns to four days, which turns to one, which eventually turns to you not even knowing where the gym is on campus. A great way to help yourself stay motivated is to set a realistic workout schedule. If you know you’re more likely to go in the morning, make that your goal. If you know you only have time to go twice per week, set a goal to go on those days. Being realistic with yourself instead of setting unachievable goals will truly help you go much farther in the end.

Don’t Pick Up Eating Habits You Wouldn’t Have At Home

This is one that we really can’t stress enough. If you wouldn’t eat an entire pizza, drink a 2-liter bottle of pop, and devour a tray of brownies while living under your parents’ roof, you shouldn’t do it while you’re away at college either! Picking up extremely unhealthy eating habits is very easy to do while you’re adjusting to college life; you’re feeling real freedom for the first time and you have endless late-night food options right at your fingertips. It’s okay to indulge in junk food once in a while, but you shouldn’t let it become a lifestyle.
