Preparing for Goodbye
The next few days were filled with quiet moments between Lily and the foxes. She spent every spare minute with them, knowing their time together was limited. They had become a part of her life, and saying goodbye seemed impossible. But as she watched them grow more agile and independent each day, she knew they were meant for a world much bigger than her room. They needed to be free, even if it hurt.
The Day Arrives
The day finally came when the animal rescue team arrived to take the fox kits to a wildlife rehabilitation center. Lily sat by the door, her stomach churning as they gently placed the foxes in carriers. Snowflake, Frost, Blizzard, and Flurry peered out at her with wide eyes. “Be brave,” she whispered, trying to hold back tears. She kissed her hand and pressed it to each of their noses, a silent promise of love.
