Brandon is one of those guys who can’t take it when they see someone else smiling. He still manages to wreak havoc on a potentially positive situation. His meddling in Callie’s adoption by the family that really loved her is a clear example of this. He did everything in his power to make it as bad as possible. While it was wonderful that the adoption was completed, it was not because of him.

Piper Chapman, Orange Is the New Black
The interaction between all characters and Piper’s general lack of knowledge creates emotional resonance and comic relief and serves as the show’s engine. Piper’s appearance as the girl who always lifts her hand after the teacher has finished taking questions is still a big part of the first season, even though the other characters’ backstories are more important.
