After exhausting all possible options, the American embassy in the South American nation the family had visited was unable to locate any of the Anderson family members. Nothing was found despite numerous big search groups asking locals whether they had seen anything and searching the jungles around the town where they were last seen.

The Anderson family was assumed dead after nearly a year of seeking, and funerals were held.
