At the young age of 32, Karen Carpenter sadly passed away in 1983. Karen collapsed suddenly at her parent’s house and was taken to Downey Community Hospital, 25 minutes away. In fact, she suffered from anorexia nervosa, a compulsive diet-related disorder, and cardiac arrest was the cause of her death. The cancellation of the 1975 performance of The Carpenters for Queen Elizabeth and their concert tour in Europe and the Orient was Karen’s anorexia. Almost until her sudden death, however, she continued to perform.
