Magical Girls
If you enjoy anime, you’re definitely familiar with the “magical girl” subgenre. However, you may not be aware that the origins of this unique kind of Japanese animation can be found in an American sitcom from the 1960s. Yes, Bewitched is said to be the inspiration for the idea that young girls have magical abilities.
Taking Inspiration From Two Shows
Bewitched isn’t quite as innovative as you thought, it seems! It appears that the sitcom’s idea was greatly influenced by both 1958’s Bell, Book, and Candle and 1942’s I Married a Witch. Nevertheless, due to the fact that it was produced by Screen Gems, the show was able to dodge any claims of blatant copying. That was a division of Columbia Pictures, the corporation that made the two movies.
