Return of the King, the most recent film, grossed $1.142 billion at the box office and is regarded as one of the most influential films ever filmed. Astin, along with seven of his major eight castmates, agreed to get matching tattoos at the end of that incredibly intense epic! The tattoo is of the number nine, the number of the first fellowship, inscribed in J.R.R. Tolkein’s complicated Tengwar script. Astin’s tattoo is on his ankle.

Following his international success with The Lord of the Rings, Sean Astin shifted gears, working on television episodes rather than movies.
