The fact that Oak Island was the site of numerous wars in the past, including the French and Indian War and the Seven Years’ War, is one of the primary factors that leads researchers to believe that the island is home to buried treasure. At some point in time, the treasure trove belonging to the French was moved from Fort Louisbourg to a secure location on Oak Island. It was here that a “money pit” was constructed for the purpose of concealing the treasures for the time being.
